Counselling & Psychotherapy in Nottingham and Newark
Hello and thank you for visiting my website. My name is Karen Hubbard and I am a psychotherapist offering counselling and psychotherapy in Nottingham and Newark. I hope that you will find the following pages of help. You will find out more about me and my treatment philosophy, an overview of what counselling and psychotherapy is, what it offers, who it is for and next steps.
I am a qualified counsellor offering counselling in Woodthorpe, Nottingham (NG5 postcode). I also provide Counselling in Newark, Nottinghamshire, ( NG22 postcode). I am trained to Masters level having completed my Masters degree in Integrative psychotherapy to become a qualified psychotherapist. My training has been five years in duration at the Sherwood Psychotherapy Training Institute (SPTI), of which I am a post graduate member. I am also a member of the UK Council for Psychotherapists (UKCP) and my work is guided by their Codes of Ethical Practice.
I have provided counselling and psychotherapy in Nottingham since 2008. I have worked within the NHS; within a Further Education College as a Student Counsellor with Children and young people aged between 16-19 and in private practice. My experience so far has extended to working with a wide range of issues some of which include the following:
- Relationship difficulties
- Anxiety and stress
- Self esteem/ confidence/ Self identity
- loss and bereavement
- living with chronic illness
- Traumas of childhood/ family dysfunction/ abuse
- Self harm/ suicidal thoughts
- Mild substance misuse
- Mild psychiatric disorders/ personality disorders
- Eating Difficulties
My approach is integrative, which means I draw from a wide range of perspectives to inform my practice and blend them based on core principles. These are the belief that relationships are what motivate us as human beings. I therefore place importance on the therapy relationship as a key facilitator of change and healing.
It has become recognised that the relationship between therapist and client is probably the most significant component in successful therapy. I therefore believe that it is important to establish an effective therapeutic relationship with my clients, so that you can have the experience of being listened to, understood and accepted and so can discuss, address and explore any area with confidence.
Some people come for counselling and psychotherapy on a short term basis, others come for much longer. There is no expected time frame or judgement made.
